Door-Tran and Partners Provide Transportation for Veteran to Old Glory Honor Flight Mission 84

Door County, WI — Door-Tran is partnering with the Door County Veterans Service Office and Door County Transportation Department to transport a local veteran to Appleton International Airport for Old Glory Honor Flight Mission 84 on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Old Glory Honor Flights provide veterans with a free, one-day trip to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials honoring their service and sacrifice. The experience includes visits to major war memorials, a city tour, and the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

The flight will depart from Appleton International Airport in the early hours of Tuesday, October 27th and return late that evening. Transportation is made possible through a partnership among three local organizations. Door-Tran coordinates the ride and provides a volunteer driver, the Door County Transportation Department supplies the vehicle, and the Door County Veterans Service Office verifies the veteran’s eligibility and covers fuel costs. This collaboration builds on Door-Tran’s existing Veteran Volunteer Transportation Program, which provides free rides to eligible Door County veterans traveling to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) clinics and specialty medical appointments throughout Wisconsin.

Kim Gilson, Volunteer Coordinator at Door-Tran, said, “We are grateful to work alongside our county partners to help a local veteran take part in this meaningful experience. It is an honor to help remove transportation barriers and ensure our veterans receive the recognition and appreciation they deserve for their service and sacrifice.”

The Old Glory Honor Flight was founded in 2009 by a dedicated group of volunteers in Appleton, Wisconsin. As part of the National Honor Flight Network, this one-day mission flies local veterans who served prior to May 7, 1975, to Washington, D.C., where they are honored and appreciated for their service. The public is invited to the Welcome Home Celebration at the Appleton International Airport, which is expected to begin with the veterans’ arrival at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Admission to the celebration and parking are free, though parking is expected to fill quickly. Community members are encouraged to carpool and arrive no earlier than 7 p.m. Guests can wear patriotic attire, visit the merchandise booth, enjoy music from the Swing Time Big Band, and join fellow veterans’ families and supporters in welcoming the heroes home.

Those interested in supporting Door-Tran’s mission can contribute through volunteer service, community partnerships, or financial donations. Volunteers and community partners play a vital role in helping Door-Tran serve residents throughout the county.
